NVC International Working Group meeting Pharmaceutical Packaging Innovation
The NVC International Working Group Pharmaceutical Packaging Innovation addresses the recent developments in the packaging of medicine and medical devices. Several members of HCPC Europe took part in the successful second meeting of the NVC International Working Group Pharmaceutical Packaging Innovation took place on Friday 24 June 2016. During this meeting we continued the work for which the NVC position paper ‘Better health by caring for packaging’, published last year, was the foundation. In two breakout sessions, the working group discussed the subjects ‘Patient friendly packaging’ and ‘Web Retail and Pharma Packaging’. More than twenty participants from all over the world shared the latest global insights, discussed the results of the joint action points that had been agreed upon in the previous (2015) working group meeting and set the work programme for 2016-2017.
General Assembly and Columbus Packaging Award 2017
The next General Assembly of HCPC Europe takes place on 16 November 2017. On the evening of that day we will award the winner of the Columbus Award 2017. The General Assembly will be followed by a discussion event on patient friendly packaging on the morning of 17 November 2017. This year, Pharmapack Europe partners with HCPC Europe to further advance your access to information about the latest trends and innovations in the industry. The winners of the Columbus Award 2016 will speak in the conference programme. Funso Olufade of Daiichi-Sankyo will give a presentation about their packaging design that won the Columbus Award 2016 for Commercially available products on 1 February at 15:30: “Beyond the Pill” – A life-cycle management program for oral tablets. That same day at 17:05, Gabriele Iannizzotto of Palladio Group, winner of the Columbus Award 2016 for Concepts, gives a presentation about their solution: Case study from the winner of HCPC awards 2016 – PhutureMed™: Advanced Packaging Solution for Pharmaceuticals. On 19 October 2016 we had our General Assembly. On the evening of that day we awarded Daiichi-Sankyo with the Columbus Award 2016 for Commercially available products and Palladio Group with the Columbus Award 2016 for Concepts. The General Assembly was followed by a discussion event on patient friendly packaging the following morning.

Our treasurer, Thomas Dries (Honeywell), gave a presentation about patient friendly packaging on 2 May 2016 at a meeting of the Geriatric Medicines Society in Frankfurt, Germany.
On 27 April 2016 Phill Marley (AstraZeneca) gave a presentation on ‘Putting the Patient First – Patient-Friendly Packaging’ in the Making Pharmaceuticals Seminar Programme. The seminar was part of the Making Pharmaceuticals Exhibition & Conference on 26 and 27 April in the National Conference Centre in Birmingham, UK.
